ABSTRACT
Nanggulan Formation is coal bearing formation, the lithology consists of sandstone, conglomerate sandstone and claystone containing coal layer. The thickness coal is 0,53 meter and coal rank included lignite.
The fossils Mollusca have been found are Gastropoda and Pelecypoda, the fossils smaller benthic foraminifera have been found are Elphidium discoidale, Ammonia beccarii, Quinqueloculina spp., Bolivina spp., have shown transition environment and the marine influence.
The fossils larger foraminifera have been found are Nummulites djogdjakartae and Discocyclina omphalus, and the fossil planktonic foraminifera have been found is Globigerina pseudoampliapertura, the age is Late Eocene.
The composition of coal petrography Nanggulan Formation consists of sub-maceral vitrinite between 5 7,6% - 68,8%, sub-maceral liptinite between 3,4% - 6,6%, sub-maceral inertinite is sclerotinite.
Based on Tissue Preservation Index and Gelification Index, coal facies Nanggulan Formation is telmatic to limno-telmatic environment that forest swamp, mildly oxic to anoxic with good tissue preservation
